How the Age Calculation Works

The tool subtracts your birth date from the target date working down through years, months, and days. It first counts whole years, then whole months since your last birthday, then the leftover days — borrowing from the previous month when the day-of-month is smaller, just as you would in long subtraction. Because it operates on the real calendar, it accounts for months of 28 to 31 days and for leap years, so the result is exact rather than an approximation based on 365.25 days per year.
